Wolverton Town Band had a busy time in the run-up to Christmas, bringing festive cheer to the people of Wolverton and Milton Keynes, with a full schedule of seasonal events.
DOBBIES GARDEN CENTRE. The band began its packed Christmas schedule on 22 November, by bringing some festive cheer to shoppers at Dobbies Garden Centre in Fenny Stratford, and it was great to see lots of seasonal headgear on show.
WOLVERTON LANTERN FESTIVAL. On 5 December, the band continued its musical activities in the run-up to Christmas with an appearance at Wolverton Lantern Parade. The band played in The Square after the parade set off and while it made its way round the streets, finishing when the parade arrived back at The Square.
CAROLS OUTSIDE WAITROSE. Once again, the band got shoppers into the festive spirit with Christmas carols at Waitrose’s Oakgrove store on Saturday 12 December.
CHRISTMAS CONCERT. The band’s free admission Christmas Concert on 12 December was a fantastic success. The church was full, so much so that the Church Wardens had to bring out extra chairs! It was great to see so many people there - of all ages ranging from toddlers to senior citizens. It was the first time the band used its new music stands, which had been purchased using a grant from Wolverton and Greenleys Town Council. The new stands will enable the band to do more community activities – and look very smart in the process! It was especially nice to see our youngsters and developers taking part in the Christmas Concert, and everyone getting into the Christmas spirit with all their festive favourites. We were so pleased that everyone enjoyed themselves - the music, raffle and refreshments - and the people of Wolverton really showed their appreciation for their local band! Thanks to everyone for making it such a success. Look out for the band’s 2016 concerts.
COMMUNITY ORCHARD. The band played carols at Wolverton Community Orchard's Christmas event, and was accompanied by a group of singers from a local church. It was another great opportunity for the band’s youngsters and developers to play a few pieces in public. Look out for our rising stars!
CAROLS AT TESCO, 20 DECEMBER. Yet more festive cheer for shoppers - this time at the Tesco in Wolverton, with carols in the supermarket entrance on 20 December. Once again, everyone got into the Christmas spirit and the people of the town were very generous in their support for their local band.
CAROLING ROUND THE STREETS. On five evenings throughout December, the band played carols to local residents door-to-door around the streets of Wolverton. It was great to see so many people supporting their local band, with many coming out to take photos, sing along and even dance! After the final evening stomping the streets, a small section of the band finished with a few festive tunes, drinks and mince pies at The Galleon pub, Old Wolverton.
PLAYING ROUND THE CHRISTMAS TREE ON CHRISTMAS EVE. As is tradition, the band finished the year playing carols round the Christmas tree in The Square on Christmas Eve afternoon. Once again, it was supported by singers from a local church and it was a great end to the year with everyone getting into the Christmas spirit and sporting festive headgear, tinsel and colourful lights.
Around £2,800 was raised over the Christmas period. Everyone at Wolverton Town Band would like to say a heartfelt thank-you to the exceptionally generous people of the town and to all our friends for their ongoing support. We welcome our new members and wish everyone a peaceful and prosperous 2016. We look forward to playing for you during the rest of the year.
