Sunday 7th May saw the beautiful setting of Buxton Pavilion Gardens drowned in sunshine and the sounds of brass music. Adjudicator Steve Pritchard-Jones had the hard task of awarding the silverware.
The competition saw six brass bands compete for the North West Spring Festival 3rd Section title.
Set to recreate their 2017 Yorkshire Regional Championships performance, Lofthouse Brass Band took to the stage and put on a fantastic performance of the brilliant Dan Price’s composition Darkwood. The piece itself depicts the story of Blackley village, a northerly district of the city of Manchester and home of the last remaining city centre brass band.
Musical Director of the band, Andrew Whitaker commented ‘This was another great day out for the band. The band are on a fantastic run of results at the moment which started back in March 2015 at the Yorkshire Area where we achieved 3rd place and have since gone on to win the Yorkshire Area in 2016, 1st place Buxton Spring Contest 2016 and now a silver podium finish in Buxton this year (not forgetting our National Finals appearance of course). It’s a great testament to the hard work put in by the players in the bandroom and at home’.
The band’s next performance will be on Friday 26th May at Outwood WMC, 7pm start - FREE ENTRY!
